Herbalife

I'm a big fan of New Year's resolutions.  As many of you know, I'm kind of obsessed with tracking things (preferably on spreadsheets), and resolutions provide the perfect reason to do just that.  I mean, I'll track things even without an actual resolution, but this is a socially-sanctioned tradition that gives me an excuse to do what I want to do anyway.  Enough about that - the point is that I finally checked one off my 2013 list.  Huzzah!

I don't have an actual yard or garden or anything, but I have always wanted to grow things.  I mean, all the other hipsters are doing it, why not me?  Specifically, I wanted to grow an herb garden.  I cook a lot, so it not only seemed pretty to look at, but also potentially useful - if I didn't kill all the herbs before I got a chance to use them.  So even though this is something I've been thinking about doing for a few years, it took making a New Year's resolution about it to make me do it.

So I fully embraced the Memorial Day tradition of doing yardwork, and headed off to Home Depot.  I managed to make a couple of burly dudes feel bad watching me try to pick up huge packages of potting soil and schlep 6 terra cotta pots on my own.

Thanks to a morning yoga-coffee-Farmers Market outing with Phoebe (yes, our lives are that fabulous), I had picked up some herbs to plant, and I also had a tomato plant on hand that had been given to me.  So!  I planted it all up and put it out on my deck.

I've got sage, rosemary, and oregano in that big pot on the left, then mint, thyme, and chives in their own pots, then basil and parsley in the one on the right.  My sad little tomato plant is the one in the back.  Say a little prayer that he makes it, he's not looking so good after the transplant.

Here's a fuller picture of the deck - what little there is of it.  I'm kind of ashamed to be posting this because you can see how dirty it is.  Errrr...will have to get on that.  I've been wanting to gussy it up a bit for the past few years, so this herb garden kind of kills two birds with one stone.  Still, maybe sometime I'll add some nicer furniture or something?  Not sure yet.

While I failed to sweep up the deck, I did clean up the garage yesterday, so that felt nice and productive.

I realize it's hard to tell from this picture that it's actually quite a bit cleaner, but you'll just have to take my word for it.  Who knows what other kind of productive activities the rest of the weekend holds!
