Sometime last summer I got it into my head that I wanted to get rid of the shutters that had been on all of the insides of my windows. My theory was that replacing them with some actual shades that I could open up all the way would bring more light into the room. The shutters have been good for the past 8 years, but I think it's time for a change. Here's some older pictures of what they looked like.
I scoped a bunch of stuff out, and decided that natural fiber shades were what I wanted. I thought the texture would be a nice addition to the room, and would allow more filtering of natural light. (I'm using the past tense because this is all about a year ago - ergh.) I found a company called Smith & Noble that sent me as many free samples as I could ask for (yes!), so I took full advantage of that.
I taped 'em all up on the wall, and then...just stared at them. For almost a year.
Every few months I'd narrow them down a bit and finally I got it down to about 2 or 3. At that same point I saw a special offer from Smith & Noble, so I decided it was a sign to get my ass in gear.
So! I have an appointment to have my windows measured tomorrow, and in preparation for that, I dismantled the shutters.
Once I took the shutters off (which was no small feat), I realized there was this weird casing that was around all the windows that was what the shutters had been attached to. It's hard to explain, but here's a picture of a piece of it that I took off if that helps to show what I'm talking about.
I'm in the process of taking all those off, and once I do, I think I'll be officially ready for the measurements, and then I'll report back on the installation process!
